Vale of the White Horse Motorcross Club The aim of this section is to give exposure to the 'Youth' members of the club. At each 'Youth' meeting, our roving reporter 'Rob Dilley' will pick on an unsuspecting rider and ask for a brief interveiw and will take a photo of you with your bike. Members under the age of 18 will require parental consent allowing the interveiw and photo to be published on this web site. Addresses and any other contact details will not be published for the members protection. If you have any news, information or funny stories you would like to share with other club members, please email Rob by clicking [email protected] Rider of the week Jazz Beach ![]() Jazz Beach has only been competing in motocross since he was twelve, that was three years ago. In that short space of time he has become very competitive, even riding at the national level. As Jazz rides with the Mid Sussex, KWS and the BSMA Nationals, he is not able to attend all of the VWHMXC rounds. Championship successes include 2nd place in the 2004 BSMA National series, and 2nd place in the 2004 Mid Sussex championship, both results in the 85cc big wheel class. Jazz has ridden a diverse selection of motocross machinery in the last three years including a KX 85 S/W, YZ 85 B/W, CR 85 B/W, SX 85 B/W, YZ125 and his current ride is a Yamaha 250 F. Jazz lives near Chertsey and enjoys R&B, Rap and Playstation gaming. Carl Phillips ![]() 2005 is Carl Phillip's first season with Vale of the White Horse MX even though he has been riding for eight years with other clubs. Carl first became interested in motocross when a neighbour bought a Yamaha PW50 Auto. It wasn't too long before Carl had his own PW 50 and started riding with the Slough Aces. Moving up from the Autos to a KX 60 in 1998 and then to the small wheel 80s in 2002 on a YZ 80. Then came the upgrade to the big wheel 85 in 2004 on a new Kawasaki 85. This year he is still in the big wheel class on a new Honda. He will probably be in this class next year as he is only 13 years of age. Carl won the Slough Aces rider of the year in 2001. Last year he finished 13th in the Slough Aces championship, and 20th in the Mid Sussex championship despite missing several rounds due to a broken leg sustained on the 5th September at Oxshott. This year Carl is riding number 111 on a Honda 85 cc big wheel. He lives near Sunbury on Thames and when he is not riding motocross bikes, he enjoys football, rugby, Playstation gaming and Rap. Carl has a small claim to fame, as he was asked to help load up one of Jeff Gordon's NASCAR racing cars into his racing trailer in America last year. What an experience, what a noise! Tom Lilly ![]() In the small wheel 85cc class is rider number 199, eleven year old Tom Lilly. Tom has been riding with the Vale for six years now, moving up from being the club champion in the autos, to 65cc class where he has campaigned both Kawasaki and KTM. Making a direct comparison between the two 65cc machines, Tom preferred the KTM as it was quicker. Tom ditched his very promising chances in the 65cc championship last year by moving up to the small wheel 85cc class mid season. Then in August he broke his leg at Enstone, which kept him out of the saddle for an eternal sixteen weeks. As you can see from the picture, Tom's current ride is a very tidy Suzuki tuned for speed with an aftermarket pipe and some clever electronics in the ignition. Tom plans to spend two years in the small wheel 85cc class before moving up to the big wheel 85cc class. When he is not racing with the Vale, Tom enjoys football, mountain bikes and has even tried snow boarding. Louise Powell ![]() Riding number 38 in the big wheel 85 cc class, 14 year old Louise Powell. Louise has been competing in motocross for six years, she rides a beautifully prepared KTM and was 8th in the 2004 VWHMX championships and 6th in the 2004 British schoolgirls championship. Louise does a lot of the work on her KTM in a workshop in the converted garage at her Sandhurst home. When she is older she hopes to complete an apprenticeship and become a motorcycle mechanic. Louise first became interested in motocross when she visited a farm and was fascinated by the off-road bikes and quad bikes. When Louise is not racing or preparing her bike, she likes fishing and listening to R&B music. Dean Rawlings ![]() Big Wheel 85cc class rider number 14 Dean Rawlings rides a Honda in his second year of motocross with VWHMX. Last year he was 21st in the club championships and was 13th in the winter series. Dean is 14 years old and his interest in motocross stems from his granddad who used to compete in the British motocross championship. Dean plans to move up to the 125cc youth class next season and has his eye on a TM 125. When he is not riding motocross bikes, Dean likes to play football and rugby or chill out and listen to R&B. He is also a keen fisherman and holds the British record for Perch from a catch in 2002. |
